Although this forum is relatively free-running, there are some general guidelines which will be enforced (if you have been a part of any online forum, most of these will probably come naturally to you).
Rule interpretations are subject to interpretation and judgment of moderators. These rules are to give members a headsup of policies, not a restriction on how moderators are to behave.
We all just want a Christian discussion forum.
1. Obscene/Vulgar language is prohibited;
Self explanatory. This is a discussion forum as well as a Christian forum.
-Moderator action: There is a word censor in place. That should cover most of it. However, trolling (ie troublemaking interested in causing a disturbance rather than this forum) will result in banning.
2. Derailing/hijacking threads is prohibited;
Keep threads on topic. The person who starts the thread is the master of his/her thread.
- Moderator action: trolling (continual monopolization of discussion (esp "rude" monopolization)) may or may not result in a ban, depending on the integrity of the poster. Off-topic side-discussions will either split the thread or be deleted.
Non-christians may post in all forums but generally should not start threads in the Christians Study forum. Disruptive posts will be moved/deleted. Threads by non-christians should generally be posted in the Edification for All forums for study, questions, and comments.
3. Spamming is prohibited;
Do not post material that solely advertize a service or website, online or otherwise.
-Moderator action: if isolated and harmless, post in question will be deleted/editted and a warning given. If repetitive and intentional, banning may result. Pornographic or "inappropriate" links will result in an instant ban. New users with advertizing names will be assumed to be spambots and will be automatically deleted.
4. Post/thread content must match that of the specified forum in which it is posted;
If you start a thread, make sure the topic is started in the proper forum. Please read the forum description of the forum you wish to post in before posting.
-Moderator action: thread/post will be moved to proper forum
5. "Flaming" is prohibited;
Repeated violation will result in banning. Please be civil and not rude. =) By the way, "flaming" is an internet term for personal attacks (note, I did not say personal criticism).
-Moderator action: warning, post edit, potential banning.
RULE ADDED May 3, 2007
6. Dormant registrants
New users who do not post a rule-abiding post within the first week (or so) of their registration will be assumed to be a spammer and banned/deleted at the discretion of staff.
I believe those are the bare bones of it. Thank you for your cooperation and God bless! If you have any questions or concerns, e-mail us at adxminister@yahoo.com.
Some people are under the impression that we purport to be a banless forum. Allow me to dispell that myth AND spell out exactly who it is we ban (and who we don't): if you have any issues with it, please send one of the staff a private message. Otherwise, you agree by posting on this site to understand what acceptable forum behavior is.
Who we do NOT ban:
- People of differing faith and beliefs
- People who disagree with other posters and staff members
- People who preach
Who we DO ban:
- People who preach without acknowledgment that they could be wrong, when confronted with inconsistencies in a logical way. Note: dogma does not constitute logic, and a person may still hold to their beliefs without penalty so long as they do not continue to insist that they are 100% right when there is evidence to the contrary.
- Flamers. Flaming is defined as personal attack of any sort. Discuss the issues, not the people who hold them. An atheist can be right about things, you know. People with no agenda other than to sling mud at people's character will be banned.
- Basically, anyone with no desire to carry on a conventionally defined civil conversation.
Isolated occurrence will result in warning. A general trend will result in banning.
If you honestly have a qualm with this policy, we'd be glad to discuss it. But we feel these items are more than acceptable expectations. Please let us know (and why) if you feel otherwise.
God bless.
